For immediate release

On May 25th, 2002, the Amateur Spaceflight Organization successfully launched a quarter scale model of its space-capable rocket design in McGregor, Texas.

This launch marks the first vehicle that the Amateur Spaceflight Association has designed, built, and successfully launched. The primary purpose of this vehicle was to validate computer models of our full-scale design. Due to the success of this flight, ASA members are going to proceed with the design and construction of a half-scale model. The half-scale model with further validate our computer simulations as well as provide a platform to test the electronics that will be employed on the full scale vehicle.

The Amateur Spaceflight Association (ASA) is a non-profit organization that was formed to pioneer the field of non-professional space research and exploration. The ASA Mission Statement best details the call of ASA: Promote space-related activities in such a manner that safely challenges the technical limits of amateur space flight.
