On May 25th, 2002, the
Amateur Spaceflight Association successfully launched a quarter scale model
of its space-capable rocket design in McGregor, Texas.
This launch marked the
introduction of ASA, in that it was the first vehicle designed, built, and
launched by ASA. The primary purpose of this flight was to test the first
design of our flight computer and associated electronics. Due to the
success of this flight, ASA members are going to proceed with the design
and construction of a half-scale model. The half-scale model with further
validate our computer simulations as well as provide a platform to test the
electronics that will be employed on the full scale vehicle.
The Amateur Spaceflight
Association (ASA) is a non-profit organization that was formed to pioneer
the field of non-professional space research and exploration. The ASA
Mission Statement best details the call of ASA: Promote space-related
activities in a such a manner that safely challenges the technical limits
of amateur space flight.
