Vision
The Amateur Spaceflight Association (ASA) is a non-profit
organization that was formed to pioneer the field of non-professional space
research and exploration. Our Mission Statement
best details the call of ASA:
Promote
space-related activities in such a manner that safely challenges the
technical limits of amateur space flight.
To that end our goal is to develop an operating history and
associated reputation that will enable us to routinely launch micro-gravity
experiments. Furthermore our outreach programs will involve allocating
payload capacity to university and research institutions to allow them
greater access to micro-gravity.
The intent of our
educational outreach is to reduce the experience and corporate knowledge
lost to graduation and the downtimes between experiments. By reducing
launch costs to a level that a research body can support on a yearly basis,
the experiments flown will successively grow and improve year after year;
rather than repeating the same experiments every few years (when budgets
allow) in an exercise of space education.
ASA will take some of the mystery and complexity away from space
flight, paving the way for scientists and researchers to study the benefits
of space, not just the unique environment.
